How Do Our Addiction Treatment Programs in Atlanta Work?

Our Atlanta addiction treatment programs offer a variety of interventions, therapies, and support services designed to help individuals recover from drug or alcohol addiction.

Treatment usually involves behavioral therapy, individual therapy and group therapy, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), medication management, and holistic therapies to address the physical, psychological, and emotional aspects of alcohol and substance use disorders.

The goal of addiction treatment is to help individuals achieve and maintain sobriety while also addressing the underlying issues that contribute to their addictive behaviors. This can include dual diagnosis disorders, trauma, and family history.

Treatment plans are customized to meet each individual’s unique needs based on their level of dependence and addiction.

Detox

Medically-supervised detox helps individuals safely manage withdrawal symptoms and cleanse their bodies from drugs or alcohol as they go through withdrawal symptoms safely and comfortably.

Residential Rehab

Inpatient or residential treatment is the ideal starting point for those who have completed detox and need round-the-clock care as they work to build a solid foundation of recovery.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our PHP provides intensive and structured treatment sessions and support during the day while allowing individuals to return home or to a sober living facility in the evenings.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our IOP offers more flexibility than our PHP and includes individual counseling, group therapy, psychoeducation, and coping and skills-building activities. It is well-suited for individuals as a step down from our PHP or those with mild to moderate addictions.

Evening IOP

Our evening IOP offers convenient evening programming for individuals with daytime commitments.

Addiction Treatment therapies

Substance abuse is treated using a combination of different evidence-based and holistic therapeutic methodologies, including:

  • Behavioral Therapy: Therapeutic interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) help individuals identify triggers, learn coping skills, change negative thought patterns, and develop healthier behaviors.

  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): Certain medications may be used to help alleviate the more intense withdrawal symptoms during detox, help reduce cravings, and be used when treating co-occurring mental health disorders.

  • Individual Counseling: One-on-one counseling sessions provide a safe space for clients to explore underlying issues contributing to their addiction and work on developing personalized strategies for recovery.

  • Group Therapy: Peer support groups offer encouragement, understanding, and accountability among individuals who are going through similar struggles with addiction while sharing experiences.

  • Family Therapy: Involving family members in addiction treatment helps repair damaged relationships, improves communications, establishes boundaries, and teaches family members how to be supportive without enabling their loved one.

  • Holistic Therapies: Holistic therapies, such as mindfulness, yoga, art therapy, meditation, nutrition counseling, exercise programs, and stress-reduction techniques, complement evidence-based therapies by addressing the mind, body, and spiritual aspects of addiction.

Combining these different treatment modalities and personalizing them to each individual’s needs and recovery goals in a supportive and structured environment at Peachtree Recovery Solutions offers the best chance of successful outcomes in overcoming substance abuse and maintaining long-term sobriety.

How Long Does Addiction Treatment Last?

The duration of treatment depends on several factors, including the severity of an individual’s addiction, and the type of program the individual is most appropriate for. At Peachtree Recovery Solutions, treatment typically falls into three categories:

30 Days: A 30-day treatment program is often a good starting point for individuals new to rehab or those with less severe substance use disorders. This option provides a focused, intensive environment to begin recovery. It typically includes detox, individual therapy, group therapy, and medical support.

60 Days: Our 60-day treatment program offers a more extended time to focus on recovery. This option provides more time to address underlying issues like trauma or co-occurring mental health disorders. Individuals have more opportunities to practice new coping skills, develop sober living strategies, and receive therapeutic support.

90 Days: A 90-day treatment program is considered one of the most comprehensive options for addiction recovery. Research shows, the longer someone stays in treatment, the better chance they have at staying sober. 90 day rehab programs offers ample time to detox, receive therapy, and work on the emotional and behavioral changes necessary for long-term sobriety. This option is often recommended for individuals with severe or long-standing addiction issues,

Negative Health Effects of Addiction

The negative health effects of addiction are far-reaching, affecting every aspect of an individual’s life. Whether it’s the physical toll on the body, the emotional and mental health decline, or the social consequences, addiction can have devastating impacts.

Physical Health Effects

Many substances, including alcohol, opioids, and stimulants, can damage vital organs. For example, chronic alcohol use is known to cause liver damage, including fatty liver disease, hepatitis, and cirrhosis, which can be life-threatening.

Cardiovascular problems are common with substances like cocaine and methamphetamines, which can increase the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and heart attacks. Respiratory issues can arise from smoking or inhaling substances, leading to conditions like chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or lung infections.

Behavioral Health Effects

One of the most noticeable behavioral effects is impaired judgment, which can lead to risky behaviors such as unsafe sexual practices, driving under the influence, or engaging in criminal activity. These actions can result in accidents, injury, or legal problems.

Social isolation is another common behavioral effect, as individuals struggling with addiction may distance themselves from friends, family, and work responsibilities, which can further entrench their dependency.

Mental Health Effects

The mental health effects of addiction are profound and often interlinked with pre-existing mental health disorders. Many individuals turn to substances to cope with conditions like depression, anxiety, or PTSD, but over time, addiction can worsen these mental health issues.

Depression and anxiety are particularly common in those struggling with substance use, as the drugs may provide temporary relief but ultimately deepen feelings of hopelessness and fear.

Addiction to stimulants like methamphetamines or cocaine can also induce psychosis, leading to hallucinations, paranoia, and irrational behavior, while long-term use can result in permanent psychotic disorders.
